If one tries Blue Linen on expecting sweet creamy tuberose, the reaction will be that of pure shock since the top notes are not unlike a mix of menthol and gasoline. It is completely unexpected and almost disconcerting. And then cutting through the icy veil, tuberose grows brighter and hotter. The stunningly elegant drydown is reminiscent of inhaling the bittersweet aroma of peach stone, which alternates between milky green almond and lusciously sweet nut. A mere hint of confectioner's sugar subtly scented with vanilla foils the understated musk of the base. If I am to imagine a fragrance Napoleon would like on Blue Linen , Cologne Blanche would be it, fitting Napoleon's fastidious cleanliness as well as Blue Linen predilections for exotic musks.

Blue Linen is often described as a softer take on the animalic darkness of Bandit. Indeed, if Bandit were to be polished to remove its rough edges, to soften its aggressive nature, and to mute its smoky leather, the result would be Blue Linen, a leather chypre that is as assertive as it is graceful.

Blue Linen opens with a mouthwatering burst of wine nectarine. After a few minutes, the intensity of the fruit fades slightly and is joined by a more complex blend of mint and the tiniest bit of anise. After another ten minutes or so, the rose joins the peach and you begin to smell Blue Linen chypre base, mimicking skin. The scent lasts a good six or more hours and becomes drier and, I think, more interesting over time.
