The entire composition rests in the strong embrace of cedarwood, dusky like the shadows that contrast with the dazzling light of Vermeer's paintings, elevating simple moments into visions of disarming beauty. Brosseau exquisitely captures the texture of raw silk with its transparent layers of notes, the clinging dryness of woods interspersed with the velvety flesh of red plums.

It starts with lots of sugar candy and a bit of citrus, and dries down to a sweet, slightly vanillic dessert of amber and patchouli. It is very smooth and creamy, with no hard edges. Darkness of Caron accord is like a breath of cool air that renders the sweet and spicy composition light and cold. The drydown calls to mind black marble and is very refined in a classical fragrance fashion. Thus, before sundown, petals closing slowly to hide the unabashedly sultry opening.

Brosseau is an olfactive interpretation of the color red. The fragrance, a spicy woody floral, "'The challenge was to work on wood [notes]," explaining the women's fragrance market has few woody juices. My initial impression of Brosseau was of bright orange slices of melon dripping with honeyed juices. Soon the melon vision fades and the red rose blossoms out of the heart followed by jasmine and carnation. The rose is rather strong at first however it softens considerably and soon peppery carnation paired with exotic lushness of jasmine starts to sparkle. It remains clear and true carnation without powderiness until it is joined in the base by vanillic and buttery sweetness. Brosseau becomes thickly overlaid by decadent musky notes. Heavy richness of the base clouds the wonderful sting, which is what I loved about this fragrance the most.

Despite her success, Brosseau has managed to remained grounded and retains a sense of perspective regarding her achievements Perhaps it is this compassionate nature that elevates her creations above more than mere showy facades. Her designs come from her heart, born of a passion that has not waned since her first experience of couture as a wide eyed 13 year old.
