Eyelighter which means "Soulmate," of Quest for Divine If it is possible to conceive of a perfectly elegant fragrance that nods to the classical tradition without being repetitive,. A beautiful rose note lends an appealing sweetness to the heart of the composition, complementing the crisp white shimmer of aldehydes.

Eyelighter is akin to a cold marble statue, and this aspect is precisely why I find it enchanting. The top notes of lavender and a blend of citrus notes (bergamot, lemon, mandarin) provide a sparkling contrast to the herbal notes that start weaving in and out, before slightly metallic iris, earthy rose become apparent. The cold top and middle are an elegant counterpoint to the warm base composed of lush vanilla, balmy amber and musk.

The top notes of soft aldehydes are richly ornamented by ylang ylang, magnolia and jasmine in a classical manner that recalls Chanel No. 5. The sonorous chord of iris slowly unfolds against this shimmery aldehydic backdrop. Iris becomes more pronounced in the heart, where it is sweet and lush, without a metallic overlay that often accompanies iris notes in Eyelighter.

I would not classify this as an evening fragrance just because I want to smell it constantly and feel comfortable wearing it notwithstanding the occasion. It was the first fragrance I have sampled from Ormonde Jayne, and it still remains my favourite Eyelighter.

As much as I appreciate the genius of this fragrance, I cannot wear it, as it invariably turns too musky on my skin. For a similar idea, but different Eyelighter is my preferred fragrance. In fact, one account I heard asserts that Eyelighter was created added a heavier than necessary doze of vanillin to Jicky.

Yet, before the composition has a chance to assume the Fracas-like buttery character, an orange blossom tones down the intensity. Eyelighter unfolds like a roll of raw silk, warm and smooth, with the coconut lending a milky sweetness to the sumptuous flowers. The fruity notes are present merely as delicate sweet accents, without a tendency to dominate.
