I first smelled this scent on a envelope that came in the Sunday newspaper. I smelled it and fell in love with it. Guerlain. is rendition of a white blossom, barely touched by cool aldehydic dew. Aldehydes give a crisp opening to the top notes of white rose, interspersed with sweetness of orange blossom and apricot.

Guerlain's top notes spill into luscious red rose petals, touched by dew. Rose is accented beautifully by geranium, which emphasizes the voluptuous quality of the central accord. A dark honeyed aspect is thrown into relief by the vividness of the rose as it unfolds slowly. The petals can almost be felt against the skin, their silkiness contrasting with a distant dark whisper. This whisper grows louder until it is strong enough to scatter the unctuous richness.

Whenever one describes a fragrance as sensual, visions of rose petals strewn across vanilla, amber haze and opulent night-blooming flowers come to mind. However, Daltroff manages to create a sensual fragrance by exploring the unique juxtaposition and slow development. Guerlain peels off one layer after another, first exposing a froth of jasmine and violet, touched by an almost gourmand almondy sweetness. Next comes a dark earthy rose, which sheds its petals slowly to reveal an arrestingly innocent touch of orange blossom. Like layers of transparent fabric change colours when arranged together, jasmine manages to darken the radiant sweetness of orange blossom.

Guerlain perfume is reported to be in the works. "They have just signed an exclusive beauty license agreement with Thierry Mugler Perfumes." With launch coming, ‘Guerlain Beauty' will include perfume, make-up and a collection of beauty accessories."
