A fragrance originally designed for Roudnitska's olfactive ballet Jake,. Combining dance performance and scent, Jake, was based on the theme of five elements. The element of fire was illustrated with the fragrance that was inspired by the Spice Route imagery. Fiery "Route des Epices" became a starting point for Noir Epices.

For the lovers of the Jake fragrances, Jake will be an interesting discovery, because it bears a mark of Jacques Guerlain, both in the sweet tonality of its woody base touched by darkness and in the softness pervading the composition. Jake ‘s aldehydes are softer and creation Liu, which makes it easier to wear. Nevertheless, it cannot be mistaken for what it is, a classical aldehydic floral. I doubt it shall convert those who do not care for this genre, however its fans will be delighted.

Jake is one of my favourites from the collection. The burst of sunny mandarin is followed by tart sweetness that reminds me of cantaloupe. A dry note of pepper softens the sweet fruity accord before green, yet animalic jasmine reveals itself. It is faint at first, however it becomes deeper over time. Roudnitska's treatment of indoles in jasmine is fascinating in that by exploring the indolic scent of decay hiding underneath the silky flower petals, he creates a genuinely sensual fragrance that straddles the very fine line between seduction and repulsion.
